Art Connex U Zine — April 2026

From Conversation to Creation

What happens after the connection?

Opening Note

Last month was about showing up—meeting, exchanging ideas, and opening the door to new connections. April is about what comes next. What do we do with those conversations once we leave the room? How do small moments of connection turn into something real?

This issue looks at momentum—how ideas move forward, take shape, and become creative projects.

The First Step Is Small

Most collaborations don’t begin with a big plan. They start with a follow-up message, a shared reference, or a simple “we should continue this.”

There can be pressure to define everything right away—to know the outcome, the format, the timeline. But early-stage collaboration is rarely clear. It’s exploratory. It shifts. It takes time to find its direction.

What matters most is taking that first small step. Reaching out. Continuing the conversation. Keeping the door open just a little longer.

Building Without a Blueprint

Not every idea needs to become a formal project. Some collaborations stay loose—ongoing conversations, studio visits, shared critiques. Others slowly evolve into exhibitions, joint works, or curatorial initiatives.

A great example of this came directly out of our recent gathering at Studio M.

During the open house, Madeleine Murphy, owner of Studio M, presented a collaborative opportunity between Studio M and Art Connex U:

The Project: Small is Beautiful
A holiday season exhibition featuring small-format works by Art Connex U members.

Exhibition Dates: December 1 – 6, 2026
Opening Reception: Thursday, December 3, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Format: Works no larger than 12” x 12”
Quantity: 1 to 5 works per artist

Studio M Gallery will handle installation, host the opening reception, and be present throughout the exhibition week.

What makes this especially meaningful is that this opportunity is offered free of charge to participating Art Connex U members.

This is exactly how momentum can take shape—through conversation, presence, and a willingness to create space for something shared. An informal gathering became a concrete opportunity for artists to exhibit their work and engage with new audiences.

Working without a blueprint can feel uncertain, but it also creates room for something unexpected to emerge. When artists allow room for process, collaboration becomes less about control and more about discovery.

Momentum builds not from certainty, but from continued engagement.

Interested in participating in Small is Beautiful? We encourage Art Connex U members to express early interest to stay informed as details and submission guidelines are finalized.

Staying in Motion

The hardest part is often not starting—it’s continuing. Life gets busy. Energy shifts. Doubt creeps in.

Sustaining momentum doesn’t require constant activity. It can be as simple as returning to an idea, revisiting a conversation, or checking in with someone you met.

Creative work grows through rhythm, not urgency. Small, consistent actions keep ideas alive.
