Growth Through Community
When connections become opportunities
Opening Note
Since the beginning of 2026, we've explored the importance of connection, collaboration, momentum, and visibility. Each theme has revealed a different part of the creative journey, but they all point toward the same outcome: growth.
Growth rarely happens in isolation. It develops through conversations, shared experiences, opportunities, and the communities that support artistic practice.
This month, we look at how artists, galleries, curators, and cultural organizations work together to create opportunities that benefit everyone.
Building Something Bigger Together
Many artistic journeys begin alone, but meaningful opportunities often emerge through connection.
A conversation can lead to an exhibition. An interview can introduce your work to a new audience. A community gathering can spark an unexpected collaboration.
Over the past several months, Art Connex U has witnessed this firsthand. Artists have connected through interviews, events, exhibitions, and community initiatives, creating new opportunities that continue to grow beyond a single interaction.
One artist who embodies this spirit is Ariel Riveros, whose creative life bridges Montréal and Valparaíso, Chile. His ongoing relationships within both artistic communities demonstrate how meaningful connections can extend beyond borders and create lasting cultural exchange.
Of course, artists are only part of the story. Behind every exhibition, vernissage, artist talk, and cultural initiative are galleries, curators, artist-run centres, and cultural organizations helping create opportunities for artistic discovery. Strong creative ecosystems are built when artists and cultural organizations grow together.
Expanding Opportunities
As Art Connex U continues to evolve, so do the opportunities available to our community.
Recent subscription updates have expanded visibility opportunities not only for artists, but also for galleries, curators, and cultural organizations.
Artists can benefit from profile visibility, event promotion, editorial features, interviews, community initiatives, and inclusion within a growing archive of contemporary artistic practice.
Meanwhile, galleries, curators, artist-run centres, and cultural organizations can now promote exhibitions, vernissages, artist talks, cultural programming, public art initiatives, and collaborative projects through dedicated visibility pathways designed for long-term discoverability.
The goal is simple: create meaningful connections between artists and the organizations that support them, while ensuring that important cultural activity remains visible long after a social media post has disappeared.
Stories Behind the Artwork
Visibility is about more than showing artwork—it is also about sharing the stories behind it.
Recently, Art Connex U had the pleasure of interviewing artist Jim Engel at Studio M, just prior to the April 30 vernissage. Filmed within the gallery setting, the interview captures Jim's reflections on his work, creative process, and current artistic direction.
The interview is currently in post-production and will be published on Art Connex U once editing is complete.
Each interview adds another voice to the growing archive of artists, ideas, and creative journeys being documented through the platform.

Location: Montréal, Québec (originally from Valparaíso, Chile)
Discipline: Painting
This month, Art Connex U is pleased to highlight Chilean artist Ariel Riveros, a painter whose work and cultural involvement have connected artistic communities for decades.
Riveros holds degrees in Education, History, Geography, and Fine Arts from the University of Playa Ancha in Valparaíso, Chile. In addition to his artistic practice, he served for more than ten years as Director of the Arte Paraíso Gallery, where he helped support and promote emerging artists.
Now based in Montréal, he continues to exhibit his work while maintaining strong ties to the Chilean arts community.
In his own words:
"Valparaíso is a very picturesque cultural city, where hundreds of urban artists of different categories are born daily. Currently I maintain links with gallery owners who promote various emerging artists. Strengthening ties between Montréal and Valparaíso is one of my purposes for my arrival in Canada."
Having worked both as an artist and as a cultural leader, Ariel understands the important relationship between creators and the organizations that help bring art into public view. His commitment to building bridges between artistic communities reflects the very spirit of Art Connex U.
