OPENING: April 25
from 1 pm to 5 pm
The Cheng Huai Art and Culture Association is pleased to present the exhibition of its first artist in residence, Elias Doering.
Elias is a pen-and-ink artist from the U.S. Maine’s East Coast, whose work is primarily black-and-white and often presented as comics of the sea. His drawings explore liminal spaces where hyper industrialization meets nature, probing how such environments affect human psychology. Doering’s imagery draws heavily from natural shapes found in tide pools along rocky coasts.
‘‘Pen and ink artwork is my life’s passion. The act of utilizing only black and white in images allows me to focus in on the textural quality of the worlds I aim to create in my works. Whether it be character, design scene illustration or figure studies, I am to bring a distinctive personal touch to my art. I constantly strive to capture the playful and the unsettling , all with flowing and emotive line work.’’
